Big picture

Academics-
Reading-
Next week we will have a DCA over the topics
covered in reading during the first nine weeks.
We will be starting poetry on Tuesday. We will be
starting with looking at poetry vocabulary,
figurative language and sensory language.
This unit will go on for 3 weeks.

Writing-
In writing we will be completing an on demand writing first on Monday.
This is the writing were they show us what they can do in an hour
without lessons. So far we have gone through
two expository papers with guidance the whole way.
Now they will do it on their own.
Then on Tuesday we will be starting poetry.
We will start with writing sensory and
figurative language in short pieces before moving
into full poems next week.

Social Studies-
This will be our last week on Texas Missions and the Spanish mission system
before moving on to "Colonizing Texas." We will
be talking about how Texas moved from Spanish rule to becoming
part of the independent country of Mexico. We will then go into how the first
Americans were allowed to move to
Texas after agreeing to be Mexican citizens and set-up colonies.
